Hello!
Thank-you for visiting my blog.
This is the first blog I have set up so please bare with me if I get things wrong in these early days!
I decided to start blogging so that I can share my experiences as a disabled person and as a disabled academic. I hope that my posts will be a mixture of the good and the bad but if I am posting about something negative, I am doing so to show the real life experiences of a disabled person rather than the experiences that the media would like you to see.
I hope that some of my posts will spark debate which will help my own thinking and understanding of issues – I certainly don’t know everything and I want to hear other peoples thoughts on the subjects I write about! I also hope that some readers will find it comforting to know that someone else is experiencing situations which are similar to the ones they are.
I am a strong advocate of social model thinking about disability – although I recognise it’s limitations and so when I refer to myself as a disabled person I am not speaking about the impairment that I have been labelled as having, but rather it is a statement about what society does to me due to that impairment – disables me.
Please feel free to get in touch or comment on posts.
